Cockpen Type Armchair For Guildhall, Bath

Cockpen Type Armchair For Guildhall, Bath
A very attractive Cockpen type armchair, after a design by Thomas Chippendale, in the Chinese taste. The finely pierced lattice back and arms make for a very crisp and sharp design that has been extremely popular for hundreds of years. The chair was made for Guildhall, Bath and commissioned by Bath City Council in around 1920, retaining its charming original label to the underside.
The drop in seat is upholstered in what looks to be its original pistachio coloured fabric, with intertwining floral decoration.
